The aftermath of the Hurricane Irma hasn’t been a pleasant one. We brought you reports that its impact on Barbuda island was catastrophic as it wrecked 95 percent of the island destroying buildings, roads, and telecommunication systems which would take many months to be restored.
The latest update on the hurricane is that about 9 persons have been confirmed dead while 39 others have been left with injuries of various degrees. This was the confirmation report given by France Interior Minister, Gerard Collomb.
The minister who spoke on French radio France Info, stated that death tolls Saint-Barthelemy and Saint-Martin is expected to rise as the rescue teams are yet to complete their inspection of the two islands.
The dangerous Category 5 storm which roared over the Caribbean has blacked out most of Puerto Rico and tearing through the U.S. territory very strong winds and downpour while staying out to sea. As at Thursday, it headed towards the Dominican Republic & Haiti.
Significant damage has also been reported on St. Martin, an island which was split between French & Dutch control. There was major damage to the Philipsburg airport & the coastal village of Marigot which has been submerged under flood water.
